Dessert Window
Chris and I had a great date night while Jackson hung out at Carson's house with Jana and Charles and Timmy. When we went to pick him up Jana told us of a slight misunderstanding the resulted in a minor meltdown of Jackson that evening. She went on to explain that it was such a nice day that she'd opened several windows in the home to let in the fresh air. During dinner, the boys were taking their time eating, but were eagerly looking forward to ice cream for dessert. At one point she told them that the dessert window wouldn't stay open all night and they they needed to finish up eating so they could enjoy their dessert. Shortly thereafter, Jana started closing the windows in the house. When she closed the window in the kitchen area where the boys were eating, Jackson started crying. Jana couldn't understand why he was crying because nothing had happened. She asked him what was wrong and he said, "You closed the dessert window and now we don't get any dessert!". He literally thought that by closing the windows Jana had officially closed the "dessert window" for the night!!!!!!! Thankfully, she explained the metaphor to him and he got dessert.

How can I meet God one day?
It's been awhile, a long while since I've added anything here. I wanted to capture a conversation I had with Jackson tonight so that I can look back and remember the details. It was the sweetest conversation I think I've had with him. At bedtime I always ask Jackson to tell me what he is thankful to God for. Most of the time he hems and haws trying to think of something (he's thankful for his toys, the buildings, cars, etc.), but tonight he said without hesitation that he was thankful for mommy, daddy, and his nana and papas (I think he meant all of his grandparents). He then asked me what I was thankful for. I told him I was thankful that of all the kids in the world that God chose him to be ours. That he could have given us any kid he wanted, but he chose Jackson to be ours. Jackson said, "wow" pensively. Then he asked how God would know his last name was going to be Sklar. I told him that because mommy and daddy have the last name of Sklar then he is one of us and his last name is Sklar. Then I reiterated how thankful we are that God shared him with us. He then asked me how he could meet God........first time he's ever asked about anything God related. It's mostly been Chris and I telling him about the bible and showing him verses and reciting prayers from age approrpriate books, etc. But he's not really asked any questions yet. I told him that when we ask Jesus to live in our hearts he seals our hearts so that one day when we go to heaven he will see that we have a seal on our hearts belonging to him. He asked me what a seal was. The best thing I could come up with was that a seal is like a sticker that can't be removed from our hearts- it's permanent. I told him about how daddy and I have "stickers" of the Spirit on our hearts and that we pray that one day he will ask Jesus to live in his heart and that his heart will be sealed with a "sticker" as well. I asked him if he thought that might happen and he nodded his head yes quietly before drifting off to sleep. Oh how we pray for him to accept Jesus in his life!!!! Thank you Lord for this sweet conversation. They are few and far between and I am grateful to have had this moment with him tonight.
